WSU faculty developed a high efficiency booster useful in devices where the gas turbine is the primary source of power and in hybrid automotive engines. Boosters are currently used in hybrid automotive engines or in stationary plants for the purpose of increasing the power output of the gas turbine. It is generally accepted that a good power producing system has reasonably high thermal efficiency consistent with economical environmental and other constraints.
However current technology does not meet these goals since it provides only limited power output and thus decreased fuel efficiency. The new device significantly increases the peak cycle temperature and cycle pressure ratio thereby improving the cycle thermal efficiency and ease of control of the unit under various loads.
